Sandara Park had visited the Philippines earlier in the year for a brief vacation. During that time she kept a low-profile so she would be able to take full advantage of her fleeting break. Dara is more than happy to be back and to have the opportunity to perform alongside her fellow members of 2NE1. “The Party”, as it was called, a one night concert which took place on June 4th, was held at the Araneta Coliseum located in Quezon City, Philippines.
2NE1 members, Park Bom, CL, Minzy, and Dara gladly answered the questions posed to them by the Philippine and Korean media that were in attendance at the 2NE1 press conference in the Grand Ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati City that afternoon. Sandara got her start back in 2004 when she debuted in ABS-CBN’s “Star Circle Quest” where she took second place.
Her opportunity on “Star Circle Quest” only propelled her forward as she was offered a bunch of successful projects. A few of her accomplishments include winning a double Platinum award in 2004 for her first, self-titled album and having the chance to be in Star Cinema movies “Can This Be Love” and “D’ Lucky Ones”.
Fast forward to the present, Dara is now part of one of the hottest girl groups in Korea. She admitted at the press conference that she was unable to hold back her happiness to be back on familiar soil, especially after she received such a warm welcome from fans once she arrived at the NAIA airport on June 3rd. She may have a small, slim frame but she confessed to the fact that she misses eating: sinigang, pinakbet, and si sig which are her favorite Filipino dishes. Dara continued to convey her love and appreciation as she expressed her willingness and desire to do a movie in the Philippines, if there were any offers.
The other 2NE1 members verified Sandara’s sentiments towards the Philippines saying that they knew how she felt and that she missed the country because of her fond memories of the country. Even before coming to visit Manila Minzy, CL, and Bom already had tasted Pinoy food because Dara apparently shares the food sent to Korea by her friends back in the Philippines. It was just another reason why they themselves were interested and excited to explore and experience the country first hand. The leader of 2NE1, CL also stated her desire to return to the Philippines so she could see more of the country and she hopes that they will be able to perform and meet their fans in other cities such as Cebu, Bacolod, and Leyte. Lastly Dara signed off excited fans with a familiar statement which was, “Kamusta kayong lahat, si Sandara ito ang pambansang krung-krung ng Pilipinas. Magkita-kita tayo soon so i-invite niyo naman kami!”, which roughly translates to, “Hello everyone, this is the national quirky girl Sandara of the Philippines. See you soon!”
2NE1 performed a total of 8 songs including “Fire” and “I Don’t Care” to the delight of the full Araneta Coliseum crowd. Sandara pleasantly surprised fans as she even sang her trademark song “In or Out” from her first album. The audience enthusiastically accompanied her as they sang along to every word. Also in attendance were her “Star Circle Quest” friends Melissa Ricks, Joross Gamboa, Joseph Bitangcol, and RJ Martinez to cheer her on.
