Marian Rivera Gracia was born in Madrid, Spain to Francisco Javier Gracia Alonso, who is Spanish, and Amalia Rivera, a Filipina from Cavite. When her parents separated 2 years after her birth, Rivera and her mom left Spain and flew back to her mother's hometown in the Philippines. However, her mother had to leave to continue her work commitment abroad that she was sent to her maternal grandmother, Francisca Rivera in Bacoor, Cavite. Marian Rivera attended Saint Francis of Assisi College System where she spent her Elementary and High School years and De La Salle University-Dasmariñas for college. She had a 3-month practicum, after which she graduated with a degree in B.S. Psychology.

Marian Rivera pursue a career as a ramp and commercial model. Not long after, she landed an appearance on TV advertisements for Skin White Lotion and Sky Flakes crackers where she was seen by TAPE Inc.'s executive producer, Tony Tuviera. Marian Rivera first starred in an afternoon soap operas for TAPE Inc. and GMA Network including Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako, Agawin Mo Man Ang Lahat and Pinakamamahal along with Oyo Boy Sotto as her leading man.
Later GMA Network cast her into mother roles for the afternoon Philippine-Malaysian drama Muli with Alfred Vargas and Super Twins. In 2006, Marian Rivera signed a contract for Regal Films that she was casted in the horror movie, Pamahiin along with Dennis Trillo and Iya Villania.
In 2007, Marian Rivera rose to fame when she won an audition for the title role of Marimar, the remake of the Mexican telenovela which starred Thalía. Before the auditions, Rivera knew little about the character as she was only 11 years old when the original soap opera aired on Philippine TV. Rivera then took the time out to do a research about the role over the internet.[8] Other actresses who took part on the auditions were Nadine Samonte, Katrina Halili, Jennylyn Mercado, Karylle, Jewel Mische, and Bianca King.

Marimar premiered on August 13, 2007 with a 36.6% rating. Her participation in the show led her to becoming a household name among the Filipino audiences that some would refer to her as Marimar/Bella even when she's out of her character, and with critics from the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc. honoring her as Phenomenal TV Star in the 38th Box-Office Entertainment Awards.
The role marked her status as the country’s hottest young actress. 2008 proved to be Marian’s year, and she won numerous awards for her work in the show, as well as several product endorsements. She was also named as the country’s sexiest woman by FHM magazine, and was also included in the “hottest” list of Maxim and Uno magazine.
After Marimar, Marian Rivera plays the role of Dyesebel.  Dingdong Dantes, who was her leading man in MariMar, pairs up with her as Fredo. She played as a beautiful young mermaid under the ocean.  It aired on April 28, 2008.
Marian Rivera starred in two MMFF movie entries such as Bahay Kubo and Desperadas. In 2008, Marian  Rivera's starred her first leading lady movie with Richard Gutierrez in the hit blockbuster romantic-comedy My Best Friend's Girlfriend.
Marian recently done a movie with Dingdong Dantes and her Desperadas co-star Iza Calzado, One True Love, which did rate well in the box office.
She plays the role of "Nieves" in her title episode of Shake, Rattle & Roll X, an MMFF entry. Also, she works with singer and songwriter Ogie Alcasid along with Desperadas main stars, in the second movie of Desperadas".
Marian was also featured in Ogie Alcasid's video "Kung Sakali".
For 2009, Marian Rivera will star on Carlo J. Caparas' Ang Babaing Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang  with Dingdong Dantes which will mark as their 3rd  teleserye team-up to be shown February. She will also star another GMA Films and Regal Entertainment co production movie with a new tandem of her and Dennis Trillo.
She is on the cover of the local edition of the largest young women’s magazine in the world, Cosmopolitan, for the month of March 2009.
Maria Rivera launched her first dance album, a CD compilation of dance music from the year 2007 and was released in January 2008. This album includes mostly house, latin and pop tracks.  It includes hits such as Chichiquita, So Sexy, Sham Sham, Beautiful Girl, and many more. And after that best-selling dance hits, she released her second dance album, “Retro Crazy”. The album’s carrier single, “Sabay-Sabay Tayo”, was composed by Geleen Eugenio and sung by Marian Rivera herself.
